Structural assembly fit-up — positioning beams, columns, and fabricated sub-assemblies for welding, bolting, or structural connection — frequently requires the operator to work around multiple faces of the assembly as it hangs. The load's orientation may need adjustment at several points during a single positioning sequence.
Multi-Face Alignment
When aligning a fabricated frame or structural assembly with multiple mating faces, the operator typically needs to approach the load from different positions as the alignment proceeds. A tool that requires the operator to detach and reattach every time they reposition does not suit this application. Working Around Adjacent Steelwork
Fabrication yards present access challenges: adjacent members, temporary supports, and work-in-progress assemblies may constrain the operator's movement around the suspended load. Tool length selection must account for available working clearance — a 6 ft tool may provide ideal standoff in open ground conditions but be unworkable inside a partially assembled frame. The FG008 telescopic pole's adjustable reach is useful in variable-access environments.
Surface Condition in Fabrication
Fabricated components in assembly yards carry shop primer, mill scale, weld spatter, and in some cases marking paint. Verify attachment on the actual engagement surface before committing the tool to a guidance task, and identify the cleanest available surface area for magnetic contact before positioning begins.
